It takes about a year to plan our trip. Remember, we're planning for a small, but friendly army.

Depending on the number of people you travel with it may take only three to six months. Another thing to consider is the time of year you're traveling. Our trip we're planning for this December has proved tricky.

It turns out, it's hard to find accomodations and tickets for nearly 20 people and keep everyone within close proximity. When we get together, we like to BE TOGETHER!

Accomodations and airline tickets take the longest time to secure. We've become pretty good at saving money and frequent flyer miles to get to Maui. At the time of writing this page (March 2006) my dad has already found five or six condo rental accomodations available for the 19 of us.

Rental cars go quickly also, so that will come up on the list of things to do shortly. Because of the number of kids and family groups minivans are the easiest way for us to get around. Unfortunately, minivans fly out of rental places faster than the Concord. So the answer: check early and often.

This strategy has worked really well for our growing family and all it took was a little pre-planning to organize the family vacation.
