Sight-seeing on Front Street, Lahaina

Walking down Front Street can feel like the Road to Hana in that there are probably as many places to shop, eat and tour as there are waterfalls along the Hana Highway. Our favorite places along Front Street are The Hilo Hattie Fashion Center, the Banyan Tree and ABC Store. Front Street, Hilo Hattie

The Lahaina Center or Hilo Hattie Fashion Center houses the famous Hawaiian clothing store of the same name along with Gap, Banana Republic, the Hard Rock Cafe--Maui.
There's also a four screen movie theater but you almost feel guilty going inside to see a movie when the view is so much better outdoors!

The Banyan Tree is one of those "You've got to see this!" stops. Originally brought over from India, the tree that was once a slight eight feet tall now towers at over 50 feet high, has 12 major trunks--not counting the massive original, extends over 200 feet from side to side and provides shade for about 2/3 of an acre!

It sits in the heart of downtown in Courthouse Square and, as you probably guessed is one of the world's largest Indian Banyan trees. Definitely add this to your "Things to do in Maui" list. banyan tree, things to do in maui

If you've never been to Maui you may wonder why we put down as a favorite the ABC Store. It doesn't sound very "Maui-esque," but these little stores smatter the Maui map and have everything you've forgotten or need at a moments notice--including Mauna Loa chocolate covered macadamia nuts (our favorite brand). They're the best right out of the bag and even better refrigerated.

Please don't think this is all there is to Front Street. These are just our favorite spots. Art, jewelry, native handicrafts, and souvenir shops line the street as do ice cream shops, a myriad of restaurants and other historical sites. You just can't beat sight-seeing with an ocean view! shopping, Lahaina
