The Marriott Maui Ocean Club sits right on Kaanapali Beach in west Maui, and is where we enjoyed our Christmas vacation in 2000.
This picture, from our Marriott Maui Ocean Club hotel room, looks northwest over the Pacific Ocean from the 4th floor of our room.
If you look closely, you can see a rainbow as well as the eastern tip of Molokini, a little island that's great for
snorkeling
or scuba diving. While rainbows may be common in Maui, to the refreshed visitor they are a friendly reminder that you're "not in Kansas (or wherever) anymore!"
The advantage of staying at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club, like many other hotels, is that your vacation includes a vacation from your kitchen. Room service is always at your beck and call. Or, if you're in the mood to catch breakfast practically on the beach, their beachfront restaurant is a great choice.
There were some days, though, that we were just too lazy to take the elevator downstairs, so we kept a supply of cold cereals, milk and orange juice in our room. There are several grocery stores in Lahaina to buy your simple eats, and we just placed the milk in the small refrigerator that came with our room.
Our boys had a great time in the Marriott's "superpool" area with all of the slides as well as the shipwreck play area. And after they'd played there for a while, Kaanapali Beach was only a few steps away and they'd be swimming in the ocean or building sandcastles.
Spending Christmas in Maui at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club was quite an unforgettable experience.
Maui is just as beautiful in the winter as it is in the summer.
While some places are chilly or downright cold in the winter, Maui (and the other Hawaiian Islands) keep pretty much the same temperature all year around, typically ranging between 72 and 79 degrees Fahrenheit (22 C - 26 C). The best part about being on Maui over Christmas was going back the mainland with a tan!
