The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua Tree Lighting Ceremony December 1, 2006. A flick of a switch and more than 250,000 lights illuminate the holiday tree and dozens of pine and palm trees around The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua. For more information call The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua at 1-800-262-8440 or (808) 669-6200. Holiday Lighting of the Banyon Tree Saturday, December 2 & Sunday December 3, 2006. On 6:30 pm Saturday, December 2, Lahaina’s historic Banyan Tree is lit up with thousands of Christmas lights for the entire holiday season. Santa Claus makes an appearance and choirs sing Christmas carols accompanied by hula. Kids are invited to play in the snow at the “snow zone” while parents can take family photos with a Hawaiian snowman. Enjoy a holiday arts and crafts fair beginning at 11:00 am, as well as Hawaiian musical entertainment. Indoors, the Old Lahaina Courthouse is decorated with tropical flowers, and a cookie decorating workshop is held for kids. Saturday: 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Sunday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Craft fair and music only. Free admission. Na Mele O Maui Friday, December 8, 2006. Presented by the Maui Hawaii Hotels & Accommodations at the Kaanapali Beach Resort. Maui County students from K through 12th grade sing their hearts out in this 32nd annual traditional Hawaiian song competition, which takes place in a resort ballroom at Kaanapali. Begins 9:00 am. Admission is $2 which raises scholarship funds. From Nov. 29-Dec. 5, enjoy the high school student juried art exhibit with corresponding Hawaiian theme displayed in a Kaanapali hotel. Billabong Pro Maui December 8-20, 2006 at Honolua Bay at the Kapalua Resort. The Eighth Annual Billabong Pro Maui presented by Hawaiian Airlines will be the deciding event in the exciting WCT Women’s World Title race this December 8-20, 2006. Held at one of the finest surf venues in the world, Honolua Bay at Kapalua Resort. The $65,000 prize purse promises to provide plenty of incentive for the 17 top female surfers and the 6 aspiring surfers who will be invited to compete in the trials. FirstLight: Academy Screenings on Maui Latter part of December, 2006 – January 1, 2007 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Kahului (Central Maui). Local non-profits and school decorate Christmas trees and compete for prizes. The decorated trees will be on display throughout December for all to enjoy at the Lahaina Cannery Mall (808-661-5304) located on 1221 Honoapiilani Highway in Lahaina. Holiday Break Ocean Discovery Camp December 26 – December 29. Have fun, experience the ocean, enjoy new adventures! Offered by Pacific Whale Foundation at Ocean Science Discovery Center in Ma'alaea. Includes beach fun, arts and crafts, hands-on marine science experiments, games and activities. 8:30 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. Daily and weekly rates available. For ages 6-12.
