The plot contrasts Grandpa Vanderhof's eccentric family, where members dabble with fireworks, raise snakes and play the xylophone, with the conservative Kirby family. Vanderhof's granddaughter, Alice, becomes engaged to her boss's son, Tony Kirby. Although a dinner party meant to bring the families together ends with an explosion and a night in jail, by play's end both Tony and his father come to appreciate Grandpa Vanderhof's carefree philosophy. For tickets call 808-242-6969. The Great Maui Whale Festival Saturday, February 10 – Sunday, February 25, 2007. A two-week series of whale-themed events, including: Run for the Whales on Saturday, February 10, 2007. This is a 5K and Half Marathon Fun Run, along the scenic South Maui coast in Makena and Wailea. Includes race t-shirt, k professional timing, aid stations and post-race breakfast. Age group medals and lei will be given for first, second and third place winners in 5 year age groups. Maui's Whale Day Celebration Saturday, February 17, 2007. Free, all-day family celebration of Maui's humpback whales, from 10 am to 5 pm at Kalama Park (by the big whale statue) on South Kihei Road, Kihei. Features live Hawaiian entertainment and dance all day. A Hawaiian craft fair will feature the work of local crafters. Enjoy a children's carnival, great food by Maui restaurants at the many food booths and pick up some excellent bargains on golf packages, accommodations, restaurant meals and art at the Silent Auction.
The Keiki Whale-a-thon Saturday, February 17, 2007. The Keiki Whale-a-thon provides children with the opportunity to learn about whales, in a fun-filled series of interactive stations created by the Ocean Science Discovery Center and Pacific Whale Foundation.. The first 150 kids to complete the course will receive a free gift. The Keiki Whale-a-thon begins at 11 a.m. and is open until 1:30. At Kalama Park, Kihei. The whales are at the starting gate, for Maui's own version of the Rubber Ducky Race, featuring cute rubber whales on a thrilling race course. Grand prize is free round-trip airfare for two to Maui from the U.S. Mainland. Lots of other prizes will be awarded! A benefit for marine education programs for Maui's kids. Chinese New Year Celebration – The Year of the Boar February 23-24, 2007. LahainaTown welcomes the lunar New Year with colorful and exciting lion dances on Front Street. On Friday, a free Chinese-themed movie is held in Campbell Park while the lions parade through town visiting shops. On the following evening, the 800 block of Front Street is closed to vehicle traffic for a street festival that begins with a Chinese martial arts demonstration, followed by live music with traditional drums, gongs and cymbals, and firecrackers. Enjoy booths with food, children’s crafts, calligraphy drawing, Chinese massage and more. Free admission. The Great Whale Count Saturday, February 24, 2007. Count the whales that can be seen from Maui's shorelines and lookout points with whale researchers and other volunteers from across the country!
