2006 Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival Early November, 2006 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC). Established in 1981, this is the premiere international film event in the Pacific and has won the praise of governments, filmmakers, scholars, educators, programmers and film industry leaders throughout the world. It is the largest "East meets West" Festival in the United States, and is the primary source for the discovery and exhibition of Asian and Pacific feature films, documentaries and videos in the nation. 2006 Arbor Day Tree Give-Away Saturday, November 4, 2006 from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon at the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens, 150 Kanaloa Ave, Kahului, HI, 96732. National Arbor Day is held in the spring, but in Hawaii Arbor Day is celebrated in November to take advantage of winter rains. This event distributes 1,000 free Hawaiian trees to Maui County residents each year on the first Saturday in November. There will be educational booths, free water saving devices and plant care demonstrations. Visit our "Ask the Expert!" booth for advice on the perfect tree. Take a self-guided tour of the garden and rest in the shade under beautiful Hawaiian trees. Free parking and free admission.
Hula O Na Keiki – Children’s Hula Competition Friday-Sunday, November 10-12, 2006 at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. Hula O Na Keiki is Maui’s only solo keiki (children) hula and Hawaiian chant competition. It attracts boys and girls ages five through 17 from around the state, mainland, Tahiti and Japan. Now in its 16th year, Hula O Na Keiki is the signature event for the hotel, a labor of love and gift to the community from our employees. Arts and crafts, cultural workshops, and continuous hula performances make this weekend a must for lovers of Hawaiian culture. Book early as this is a sell-out! The Mystery of Irma Vep November 17 - December 3, 2006 by Maui OnStage in the Iao Theater. This great live theater is written by Charles Ludlam. This definitive spoof of Gothic melodramas, recently revived Off Broadway to raves, is a quick change marathon in which two actors play all the roles. The Maui Invitational Thanksgiving Week, November 20, 21 and 22, 2006 at the Lahaina Civic Center. Hosted by Chaminade University and title sponsored by EA SPORTS, the Maui Invitational is considered by many to be the premier pre-season college basketball tournament in the nation. 6th Annual E Hooulu Ahoha – To Grow In Love November 25, 2006 on the grounds of the Bailey House Museum and the historic Yokouchi residence in Wailuku. A Benefit Concert for the Maui Historical Society and the Bailey House Museum. Maui musical artists Uluwehi Guerrero, Lei'ohu Ryder, Richard Ho'opi'i and friends are donating their talents and time to raise funds for the Bailey House Museum which houses much of Maui's history. In addition, a halau (hula) group from Japan will perform. Tickets prices are $10 in advance and $15 on the day of the event. Children under 12 admitted free with paid adult.
