Kapalua Open Tennis Tournament August 31 – September 3, 2007. This annual Labor Day tennis championship courts the best in men’s and women’s singles and doubles tennis play, in 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and pen division play at the Kapalua Resort’s award-winning Tennis Garden. The Maui Writers Conference offers something for every writer. It's the 15th annual food-lovers themed dinner and cocktail party under the stars. West Maui's top chefs will present their culinary hits at Hyatt Regency Maui Resort in Ka'anapali. Admission is $135 (a portion is tax deductible) which includes 24 gourmet dishes, wines & spirits, and live band entertainment. A Taste of Lahaina & The Best of Island Music Mid September, 2007 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the Lahaina Recreation Park II behind the soccer field. Maui’s largest culinary festival celebrates 16 years. The event showcases new and popular restaurants in Maui County offering “tastes” of signature dishes. Features include a beer and wine garden, country store, kids’ fun area, 25 restaurant tents and continuous live entertainment on stage with Hawaii’s current and legendary musicians. Aloha Festivals Royal Court - Opening of the Makahiki Mid September, 2007 at 12:00 noon at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua, Honokahua Preservation Site. Maui Marathon, Maui Half Marathon, Maui Tacos 5K Sunday, September 16, 2007 at 5:30 am, sponsored by The Westin Maui, begins at the Queen Kaahumanu Center in Kahului and ends near the Whalers Village within the Kaanapali Resort. The Maui Marathon course is simply one of the most scenic marathon courses in the world. Over 17 miles or 65% of the Maui Marathon is oceanfront running. The Maui Half Marathon begins at the same time as the Maui Full Marathon, starting and finishing at near the Whalers Village. For more information, please call (808) 242-1560. 85th Maui County Fair September 27 – 30, 2007 at 211 Kanaloa Avenue, Wailuku (the War Memorial Gymnasium parking lot). The Fair is a nonprofit organization supported entirely by corporate sponsorship, local donations, and volunteers. The Fair is also the primary source of funding for many of Maui’s nonprofit and community organizations.
