Maui Scuba Diving is considered one of the best scuba experiences in the world.

It is not uncommon, on a Maui scuba diving experience, to have water visibility around 100 feet, and is sometimes better than 150 feet! Scuba diving at Molokini was no exception. Our visibility during our 2004 trip was 150+ feet. It's no wonder that Molokini is considered one of the top 10 scuba experiences in the world! molokini, hawaii
The small island itself is an extant volcanic crater that has eroded over time. Today only half of the islet is above water. Along with state-wide islands and inlets Molokini is a Hawaii State Seabird Sanctuary.

For us this was truly an unforgettable Maui scuba diving experience.

scuba diving Molokini. In this picture we have descended to the bottom of the bay at Molokini (we are holding on to the anchor line) and are getting ready to explore with the help of a guide.

One of the first marine life we saw on this dive was a large manta ray that was probably about 40 feet away. It appeared to have seen us, and darted down the slope of the bay into deeper and darker waters. On this dive our lowest point was about 55 feet, and we were under for about 30 minutes.

Scuba diving for me is a very peaceful experience that is uncomparable and difficult to describe. You really feel like you are "one with the water and the marine life." And it's hard to overstate the awesome visibility of Maui's water.

Our second dive on this boat tour was at Turtle Bay, which is off the southwest coast of Maui. This dive's maximum depth was about 30 feet. We saw a two sea turtles ascending for air and a variety of fish.

At the end of our two dives, we had a heartly lunch that included sandwiches and fruit that left us with very big orange smiles.

Earlier in our 2004 Maui trip my brother-in-law and I took a 5-day course and became open water scuba certified. Our instructor was great. We did several of our dives off of Kahekili Beach Park, about a 10 minute car ride north of Kaanapali Beach.
PADI scuba certification
If you are looking to get scuba certified, Maui is one the best places to do it. And we were very pleased with our scuba instructor. Aside from being knowlegable, he was funny and personable.

We are already looking forward to another Maui Scuba Diving experience when we return in December 2006!
