Stop To Shop

Here is my list of places you've got to Stop To Shop. When you're in Maui you really can't go wrong wandering into any store. Even if you don't find anything you've still "shopped in Maui." I only wish I had more pictures. You never think about snapping photos when you're in shopping mode. I'll definitely include some after our upcoming trip in December 2006. Because, after all, the view is what makes shopping in Maui--Shopping In Maui!

Ok, you might be Hilo Hattied out with all our mentions of this store but really, once you're inside you want to pitch a tent and never leave. Hilo Hattie, shopping maui There's enough island specialty treats to last a while. What else does one need if you've got chocolate covered macadamia nuts and Maui chips.

That will keep your energy up so you can shop for hours. And you can easily spend hours there looking at books, CD's and DVD's, apparel for everyone, accessories, home decor and souvenirs.

Plus the spirit of Aloha is overflowing throughout the store. Every employee we have ever talked with has been friendly and helpful. You won't regret stopping at Hilo Hattie.

On the west side of Maui, HiloHattie.com - The Store of Hawaii! is located in the Lahaina Center near The Hard Rock Cafe.

Crazy Shirts

This store is crazy in more way than one! Fun should be it's middle name because it just feels like a fun store the minute you walk in. Our favorite locations are in the Whaler Village and along Front Street. Besides the huge variety of t-shirts for men, women and kids, they have specialty dyed t-shirts.

What, you may ask, is a specialty dyed t-shirt? It's a t-shirt that's made by using dye from chocolate, money, sunflower, key lime, kona coffee and my favorite--money. The best t-shirt we found for my dad said "Bank of Dad." (My sister and I are slightly spoiled that way.)

Blue Ginger

The Blue Ginger and Blue Ginger Kids store in The Whaler Village offers an more upscale approach to traditional Hawaiian clothing. The MuuMuus take on a more fashionable design to the traditional big A-line dress.

As the mother of 3 boys, shopping with my sister-in-law for my niece at Blue Ginger Kids was paradise--in paradise. The cutest clothes, accessories and toys, all with an island flare.

Sgt. Leisure

Also in The Whaler Village is Sgt. Leisure. True to it's name, this store all about looking good and feeling comfortable. Great t-shirts and shirts for men and women and fun shoes too! It also has a small children's section. We skipped the t-shirts for the kids and bought Sgt. Leisure "magic washcloths" instead. The washcloths have definitely lasted longer than a t-shirt would have!

Na Hoku

This fine jewelry store is famous for its Hawaiian heritage as an island trademark since 1924. Combining a respect of tradition with the spirit of Aloha, each piece reflects a love of the islands.

Although, Na Hoku stores can be found in Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island of Hawaii, as well as in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, New York, and Washington D.C, (to name a few U.S. stores) our favorite is Maui. It just feels right on the island as opposed to the mainland. Na Hoku on Maui can be found on Front St. and in The Whaler Village.

ABC Stores

Last, but not least, is my favorite convenience store--The ABC Store. There seems to be an ABC Store on every corner, kind of like Circle K or 7 Eleven here on the mainland. But the ABC Store is so much better. All the amenities of a convenience store plus Hawaii souvenirs (good ones!), cheap t-shirts, grocery section and my very favorite Mauna Loa chocolate covered macadamia nuts. Remember, they're great out of the bag but even better chilled or frozen--trust me!
